How the "fish" proverb helps us sort executives

All know the proverb: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." We use this proverb to sort executives. We've come across three kinds of executives.....Most capable executives give fish. The rare outstanding executive teach how to fish. The dangerous executives eat the fish. Here's what we mean. Most executives figure out how to galvanize team' to achieve an objective - these executive "give a man a fish - feeding him for a day. The rare extraordinary executive doesn't just galvanize teams to achieve an objective but infuse a shared system of working and build up remarkable people along the way by relentlessly teaching, disciplining, empowering. Finally the awful fake executiv eat the fish themselves. These are the selfish pretenders who make their up the corporate ladder but ultimately get kicked out. We've had our share. Don't get us started... - Sanders DiPiero
